Sometimes, it just takes a few words to start a healing process. The following poem was written by one of our primary care patients – a 9-year-old girl whose expressions of compassion helped her overcome her experience with bullying.
I was bullied at school for two whole years.
Most days I shed a lot of tears.
You made me not want to come to school.
All I wanted was to run and hide,
Because you took away all my pride.
They tell me one day I will forget.
That thought still makes me fret.
One day I see someone who is afraid.
Who is being bullied and is really scared.
I’ll tell them, “Please don’t cry, you are not alone.
I will be your friend and give you my shoulder to lean on.”
“We can do this, you and I.
We won’t let anyone make us cry.”
