Columbia, MD, December 17, 2012 – Shari’s Promise, a non-profit organization created to stop the sexual abuse of children, empower survivors, and teach communities to prevent, recognize the signs, and react responsibly when abuse is disclosed, has scheduled a “Safe Kids” training event. The “Safe Kids” training event, which will be held on January 31, 2012 from 6:30PM to 8:00PM, is for the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) at Jeffers Hill Elementary School in Columbia, MD. The training includes information on:
- what child sexual abuse is;
- who can perpetrate;
- how to talk with your children;
- tools to put in practice right away;
- how to recognize the signs; and
- how to respond and take the action that best facilitates healing.
The event is sponsored by KinderMender Walk-In Pediatric Center, which will be donating $250 to the Jeffers Hill PTA and $250 to Shari’s Promise to support future trainings and defray costs.
“We’re so thankful for KinderMender’s sponsorship and donation to this event,” said Shari Hammond, co-founder and namesake of the organization. “This event is a tremendous teaching tool for the adults and children of this community.”
