Back to School Physicals
At KinderMender, the primary goal of back to school physicals is to help children start school on the right foot. These physicals do not entail a complete check-up, and do not involve developmental or nutritional screenings, but are meant to ensure that no pre-existing medical conditions – such as allergies, asthma, or cardiac histories – are present that school nurses should be made aware of. Our physicians also ensure that a child’s immunization records are up-to-date.
Like KinderMender’s back to school physicals, the goal of our sports physicals is to pre-screen for pre-existing or life-threatening medical conditions that could preclude a child from taking part in athletic activity.
Largely, screenings are made for cardiac issues that could put a child at risk of sudden death while taking part in sports. If asthma is present, our physicians ensure that a rescue inhaler will be on-site, while any concerns regarding recent concussion are also ruled out, and referrals are made to medical specialists as needed.
No appointments are necessary for those visits, and patients can stop by any one of our four Maryland offices when they have time.
A+ Customer Service
It is important to note that sports and back to school physicals are not a substitution for annual checkups, well child visits, or any other preventive care provided by KinderMender’s primary care physicians.
For any questions regarding school-related physicals, please pick up the proper form from your school or download it from our website, and make an appointment to see a KinderMender primary care physician today.
